Ayurveda is the most ancient indigenous medical system of India. According to various Ayurvedic literatures, Brahma(the complier) was the divine source of this science. Ayurveda is that which deals with good, bad, blissful and sorrowful life, and with what is wholesome and unwholesome for it, longevity, and about what Ayu(life) is in itself.

            The main aim of Ayurveda is to attain virtual acts, wealth, desire and salvation. Ill health takes away from the health and happiness from life. There are main two objects of Ayurveda. One is preserve the health of healthy person(preventive) and the second one is alleviation of disorders in the diseased(curative). The preventive medicine gets the first position which indicates the priority of ancients.

The definition of health was given by texts of Ayurveda few thousand years ago.

  • Humors and metabolic state are in balance state
  • Functional activities of the tissues and excretory products are in  balance
  • The soul, senses and mind feel well(mental state)
  • Balance in quality quantity and functionally

    WHO definition of health

  • Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social wellbeing and not merely absence of disease or infirmity.
  • Physical health(biologically)- a state which every cell and every organ is functioning at optimum capacity and in perfect harmony with the rest of the body.
  • Mental health(psychologically)- a state in which the individual feels a sense of perfect well-being.
  • Social health- a state in which the individual’s capacities for participation in the social system are optimal.
